Looiersgracht 60, in collaboration with Gerrit Rietveld Academie, is delighted to welcome back Selected; an annual exhibition of exceptional work from a shortlist of selected graduates. Participants of the show have all been nominated during the Graduation Show for the annual ‘GRA Awards’ by an independent jury. This year’s Applied Arts jury consisted of Simone Trum (found and partner of graphic design duo Team Thursday based in Rotterdam) and Willem Velthoven (founder and director of Mediamatic, a developmental institution for innovative art forms in Amsterdam). The Thesis jury consisted of Basje Boer (writer and film journalist), Dominic van de Boogerd (art historian and art critic) and Jeroen Boomgaard (professor of art and public space at Gerrit Rietveld Academie). The Autonomous Arts jury consisted of Heske ten Cate (artistic director of contemporary art platform Nest based in De Haag) and Martijn Hendriks (visual artist based in Amsterdam). In particular, the juries were impressed with the artists’ autonomous and unpretentious approaches to their respective disciplines and noted the amount of work that stemmed from ideas of cultural diversity, family roots and nature, and their ability to transcend individual experiences through the thoughtful addition of conceptual layers.

This is the fourth year that Looiersgracht 60 has worked with Gerrit Rietveld Academie to realise Selected - a testament to both organisations’ ongoing commitment to promoting young talent whose work aims to constantly redefine boundaries.
