For this year’s edition of Selected, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Looiersgracht 60 present the addition of daily ‘Afternoon Sessions.’ Hosted by the artists themselves alongside invited special guests, these informal conversations are designed to delve deeper into individual practice and research interests. Together with the members of the jury, artists and lecturers, we welcome you to join - attendance is free and open to everyone.

The (Disruptive) Agency of the Dirty Art Object
María Nolla Mateos’ Some people are afraid of the voidexplores the physicality of space and emptiness. In dialogue with Julia Steenhuisen, curator at Cobra Museum of Modern Art and coordinator at de Prijs voor de Jonge Kunstkritiek, Mateos discusses the concept of the ‘dirty art object.’
Different Notions of Materiality in Contemporary Jewellery
Yunting Zhang’s work evolves around bottles of ‘fantasy water’ and shrines to the sanctuary of her grandmother's house. With a background in commercial jewellery making, Zhang has developed her practice at the Rietveld, experimenting with size, layering and detail. She establishes a conversation Willem Velthoven, who is the founder and director of Mediamatic, an arts centre dedicated to the intersection between art and science.
