Sandberg Institute Graduation Show
28 June – 7 July 2013
From 28 June to 7 July 2013, Looiersgracht 60 hosted Altijd Tijdelijk, the Sandberg Instituut’s student graduation show. The Sandberg Instituut is the postgraduate department of Amsterdam’s Gerrit Rietveld Academie, an institution that focuses on addressing urgent social issues in contemporary society through art and design. The Rietveld Academie combines the aesthetic lure of distraction with practical approaches to the visual arts that are informed by the wealth of experience of its course directors. The supervisors of the 2011/13 master’s programme, Studio Vacant NL, were Erik Rietveld, Ronald Rietveld, Ester van de Wiel and Barbara Visser.
Studio Vacant NL sought to provide practical and inspiring design solutions for temporarily vacant locations. A central question in that regard was how a design can create the conditions for a temporary re-use of spaces while also contributing to cross-fertilisation between the disciplines of design, science and technology. The exhibition Altijd Tijdelijk featured the realisation of the following designs into 1:1 models:
Blikopeners en Uitsluiters – Christiaan Bakker
De Uitgeverij van Leegstand – Sjoerd ter Borg
Leegstandsafari – Henriëtte Waal
Rope | Access – Celine de Waal Malefijt
Room Supply – Pieter Alexander Lefebvre
Sporen van gebruik als medium – Ruiter Janssen
Skinned – Jorien Kemerink
