Public Research Residency : Public Programme Event III
3 September 2022
In collaboration with Radical Reversibility, the first edition of the Public Research Residency brings together artists Doina Kraal and Roger Cremers for the production of their collaborative project, Spiritus – Archiving the (Un)imaginable. This project is a continuation of an existing conversation and body of research surrounding time travel, the universe, archives, music, sound and storytelling. Working between installation, performance and interdisciplinary practice, Kraal and Cremers will explore the representation of the universe and the stories that are told to describe different phenomena, histories and future scenarios.
Apart from time spent in production, Kraal and Cremers will collaborate with Radical Reversibility and Looiersgracht 60 to present a varied public programme to complement and expand on their research and artistic production. Each Saturday from 20 August to 10 September the public is invited to attend events hosted by the artists and special guests.
For the third event in the public programme, we are pleased to present Speculations on Cosmic Modesty, an afternoon of conversation around speculation between invited guests, Philippe Ailleris and Taede Smedes and artists Doina Kraal and Roger Cremers. The artists and special guests will openly discuss topics circulating around the nature of the imagination of the (un)imaginable, our perception of other worlds, and artistic and scientific representations of the universe.
Philippe Ailleris is a project controller at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), the European Space Agency's main technology development and test centre for spacecraft and space technology. Ailleris is also the founder of the Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena (UAP) Reporting Scheme, a project to faciliate the collection of UAP reports from both amateur and professional astronomers.
Taede Smedes is a philosopher of religion, specialising in the relation between science and religion. As a theologian, journalist and freelance writer, Smedes studies the relationship between religious atheism, religious naturalism and post-theism. His work is specifically interested in the relationship between humanity and the cosmos.
Speculations on Cosmic Modesty will take place on Saturday 3 September from 16:00-18:00.
Admission is free, please email us if you have any questions about the event or if you would like to attend at info@looiersgracht60.org.
