To mark the close of the residency, Looiersgracht 60 invites visitors to join artist Romy Yedidia in conversation with art historian and PhD candidate Anna Lawrence. Taking Lawrence’s research into the seventeenth-century Dutch flower painter Maria van Oosterwijck as a point of departure, in dialogue with Yedidia’s research into the symbol of the flower as an idealised image of nature and its consequent coding as feminine, the conversation will consider how floral imagery has circulated across art history and everyday visual culture, shaping ideals of beauty, youth and femininity.

The talk will move between the impossible bouquet, the broken tulip and contemporary rituals of looking and consumption, asking how such images are internalised, reproduced and sustained through everyday gestures. Moving between historical painting, the impossible bouquet, the broken tulip and contemporary visual culture, the conversation will consider how cultural images are absorbed, repeated and maintained — shaping not only how women are seen, but eventually how they come to see themselves.

The programme begins at 17:30, followed by a Q&A session and concluding with drinks.
