The Voice of Materials

Looiersgracht 60 looks forward to offering a platform for first year students of Inter-architecture at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. On 28 May 2017, ‘The Voice of Materials’ will present the students’ end of year pieces – the culmination of a project initiated by artistic duo Marie Ilse Bourlanges and Elena Khurtova. In the course, students explore the intimate relationship between materials and their expression as it relates to sound and space. This year, eight students will present the results of their individual investigations and reflections in performative and spatial installations that evidence a conceptual approach to materials and their inherent properties. Raw materials are transformed into instruments and narrative vessels. Sound becomes a space transformer and a hypnotic and motoric force. Each work aims at discovering a specific voice of tactility and how it may transform our perception of space.
